Guest Speakers for 2019
Peter Cundall
We are delighted to welcome the “Patron Saint” of gardening, Peter Cundall, to this year’s festival. Peter needs no introduction to anyone who loves gardening. The long-time host of Gardening Australia will be officially opening the festival at 10.45am. He will then be joining the Q&A panel to do what he does best – answer all your tricky questions about tomatoes and garlic.
(We will also be honoured to have Peter’s son, Paul Cundall, world-class chef, here to judge your cooking entries).

Penny Woodward
A dedicated organic gardener and horticultural editor for Organic Gardener Magazine. Penny's passion for the environment has led to a lifetime of study in organic gardens. She is editor on the Essential Guides series and contributor to many other books and publications including Backyard Bounty. Penny is a panelist on Melbourne’s 3CR community radio gardening program, gives talks to gardeners around Australia and has written eight books on edible and useful plants. Her latest book: Garlic: An organic guide to knowing, growing and using garlic is for sale via her website Penny will be speaking on 2 separate occasions, one being on ‘Garlic Growing for the Home Gardener’ and the other ‘10 Facts you did not know about Tomatoes’ she will also include a bit about the huge range of heirloom tomatoes, colours, flavours, and the phytochemicals that create the colours and their nutritional and medicinal uses. Angus Stewart
A former presenter of ABC Gardening Australia. He is an author and expert on soil health. Angus has made the shift to Tasmania’s sunnier climes and now lives on the Tasman Peninsula, where he plays an important role in the running of the annual Koonya Garlic Festival. Angus will be speaking about pests, diseases and soil health. You’ll have an opportunity to ask him many questions about your own garden needs as he sits on the Q&A panel and he will be taking visitors on a tour of the Tomato Patch. |
Cooking

Head over to the cooking showcase where internationally renowned David Ball, Executive Chef, will demonstrate some amazing creations using the heirloom tomatoes and garlic grown on the Reed property.
David Ball
Originally from the UK, Executive Chef Ball brings with him a wealth of international experience.
Having established his career with Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons, a two star Michelin restaurant in Oxford, his passion to continually evolve creatively has seen him lead kitchens in London, Paris and most recently Sydney. His versatility emanates from roles in Fine Dining, Catering and Events, and also Product Development.
David is embracing life in Tasmania and is currently Executive Chef at the Glasshouse on the water front in Hobart. His focus is on using local growers, farmers and producers.

Tasting Tent and Farm Tours
The Tasting Tent offers the chance to sample over 100 varieties of tomatoes, 15 varieties of garlic and cast your vote for the tastiest.

Take a farm tour and learn about the origins, growth habits and properties of different varieties, with farm owners Annette and Nevil Reed. This years theme is beautiful bicolours.

Bushwalking - Take the kids on a treasure hunt through the bush to explore the native flora and escape the crowd.

Ben Mckinnon - is a singer-songwriter with national radio airplay, a blossoming fan base and a bucket load of live experience. Every performance is energetic with a fun and full acoustic sound.
Each set list is filled with big sing-a-long choruses, gentle love ballads, Scottish passion and even touches of stormy blues squalor. From Launceston, travel west along the Bass Highway, number 1, for about 20km.
Take the turn off for Hagley. From Hagley, travel north on Selbourne Road, the C735 for about 8km. At Selbourne, turn right onto Four Springs Road and drive for about 4km. There will be signs on roads near the farm to direct you. |
